The first Auxiliary Forces

Among the commanders of the auxiliary corps which landed at Loutro in October 1821 were Alexios Mavrothalassitis and Loukas Leivadeus. There was also a smaller group of Cypriots under Kyprios Zorzis, the leaders Panayis and Maggioros from Mytilini, and corps raised by Cretans. Their first major battle in which they participated was fought to repel the attack on Lakkoi by the Muslims of Chania in December 1821. Most of these men remained on the island until the defeat of 1824, playing an active part in most operations.
